BI Program—Enterprise Quarterback?
As a strategic initiative, the BI program should not be an afterthought within the enterprise program portfolio. Yet often we see tactical and operational business leaders focus on implementing day-to-day solutions that leave the executive team without the tools required to direct the business. It might be intuitive that the operational systems must be in place before data can flow into your BI environment, but this doesn’t mean that your BI needs should fall on the cutting room floor.
If business was just about keeping the lights on, then it might make sense to keep a myopic focus on tactical or operational solutions. But if the business is about maximizing shareholder value, being a market leader, or pioneering new markets, then strategic projects need to factor into and even drive tactical projects. Your BI program is a strategic initiative that drives market penetration, profitability, and sales effectiveness.
As the purveyors of knowledge and information, you can make your BI project lay the enterprise groundwork that enhances the business process, structure, and competence required to successfully implement enterprise applications. This presentation will show you how the artifacts produced by successful BI programs can be used to quarterback your enterprise portfolio of projects.
