Master data management (MDM) software solutions are complex in terms of the available architectural options and how these relate to end-user requirements and preexisting systems. According to TDWI Research, most MDM solutions are homegrown and require five tools or platforms, usually from multiple vendors. These tools include database management systems, data integration platforms, metadata management repositories, data modeling tools, and so on.
